Suitable for a child starting from birth.
This knotting has the same advantages as the simple cross in front but can be done with the short wrap because you don’t need a lot of material. It permits you to wear your baby on your hip practically and is easily adjustable. It is easy to take baby out and put him back in the wrap without undoing the knot. This kind of portage is asymmetric so all the weight sits on one hip and a shoulder. We recommend, as with all unilateral knottings, to change hips regularly so as not to tire your back.
Here are the basic steps in understanding how to knot the simple cross over the hip:

Put the centre of the wrap on the shoulder opposite to the hip that will support the baby. |

It is possible to cover the head of your baby completely, to leave only the arms inside or to leave them outside completely.
Do the adjustment so that baby is snug against your body and well supported in his back and under his knees. Pull fold by fold to adjust the knot. Once well-adjusted, do a double knot. To take baby out easily, you only have to open up the cross and pull baby upwards. |
