Kangaroo on your back (Frog position)

Here are the basic steps in understanding how to knot the Kangaroo on your back (Frog position):

Back to woven wrap knots

First place the wrap on the back of your child with the shoulders well covered. This manoeuvre can be done with a baby more than 6 months old sitting on your leg. Cross your arms and solidly grab the baby under his arms while taking all the material that was around his shoulders in your hand. When you grip the baby, make sure to hold him close to his own body so as not to pull his arms. Before you lift baby, make sure that the wrap is not twisted and that it falls loose on each side of you. The next movement is to pass your child onto your back by lifting and uncrossing your arms over your head. If you don’t want to get all mixed up in the material, do a half-turn in place while baby stays still. Keep everything close to you while you pass under your arm. Place baby in the middle of your back and lean forward while letting baby slide down to the desired height.

Ask for help from another person when you lift your baby over the first few times. Always be careful and make sure not to pull on babies’ arms.

Once your child and the wrap are on your back, keep your back straight and bring all the material onto your shoulders.

Place the material under the child’s bottom and his legs until his knees so that when you stand straight he is sitting properly in the wrap. Spread his legs, going with the capacity of your child to tolerate his legs being ideally around your waist. He should now be sitting on your back but his tummy against your back.

Completely bare your arms.

You can now pull on the whole width of the wrap to adjust the material on your child. Sometimes a child will sit up completely making it difficult to tie a knot. One must have patience and wait for baby to lie back down against your back or you must bring him close to you by pulling on the upper border of the wrap.

Do a last adjustment so that the material is taut to the maximum. Once the tension is adjusted, firmly hold the wrap with both hands and stand straight. Normally, the child should be well seated and very close to you. If not, lean forward again and readjust the tension so you are both comfortable.

To finish the knot, there are two distinct techniques. With the first, pass each side of the wrap directly under your arm s, with the second, first cross in front of your chest and continue under your arms. The choice is personal and depends on your comfort.

After having passed the material under your arms, pass it over babies’ legs.

Then cross under his bottom.

To come back to the front, pass the wrap under his knees. This will allow a firm hold and will avoid baby sliding out of the bottom of the wrap.

,
You can now do a knot in front of you or behind you.

Spread the material over  your chest to distribute the weight.
