The stretch wrap is good for people who wish to invest a little less money at the start, find the material easier to handle and don’t think they will be babywearing over the initial 6 months. You will find certain models in the market that mention that a stretch wrap can support a baby up to 35 lbs but in all cases, you will probably start feeling uncomfortable from about 15 pounds.

It is flexible, thin, slim, comfortable, light and soft. It is very easy to insert and remove a child without undoing the knot. It allows to safely do one knot that we call the Cross envelope. It gives baby the best support, the material covers baby 3 times. Baby must be worn in the frontal frog position, cradle or facing outwards. We do not recommend wearing baby on your back with a stretch wrap.

We call a stretch wrap, a wrap made of a knit that can be composed of different fibres, such as cotton, polyester and Lycra. The major difference is the elongating of the material in its length but mostly its width that makes the wrap flexible but also deforms it according to the weight of the baby. Therefore it is not recommended for a baby heavier than about 15 pounds. It becomes very difficult to wear, the tension of the material pulled to the maximum becomes difficult to support on the shoulders of the wearer. The heavier child deforms the material too much. Baby is too low and it becomes impossible to properly position his back, legs and pelvis.

Depending on the composition of the fibre, the material can have a very weak memory, this means that it stretches out but doesn’t come back to its initial shape after the tension is released. The advantage of Lycra is it possesses a good memory but is often too stretchy to support the weight of a child. It is often used with the kangaroo method for premature or underweight newborns. It is very important therefore to compare the quality of a stretch wrap because they vary so much from one make to the next. The wraps often found in great quantities in the marketplace are the ones where the cost of the material is low and much easier to get.

Chimparoo stretch models are made with an interlock knit that will obtain all the qualities listed for the comfort and promote memory, 100% cotton of excellent quality.
